On 23rd May, an IER special seminar was held to share the frontier of the environmental radioactivity in South Korea and Japan, inviting senior researcher Dr. Hyuncheol KIM and researcher Ms. Gahyun Kim from KAER. Thirty-three participants, including master’s and doctoral students at Fukushima University majoring in Environmental Radioactivity and IER faculty members, attended the seminar.

Dr. Hyunchoel KIM and Ms. Gahyun KIM gave presentations for the analytical method of radioactivity in seawater developed in KAERI. IER faculty members presented on the status of environmental radioactivity in the Fukushima area after the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant accident, as well as the tritium levels in coastal seawater before and after the discharge of ALPS treated water into the ocean.

After each presentation, various questions and opinions were raised by both Korean researchers and IER faculty and graduate students, leading to lively discussions.
