The Institute of Environmental Radioactivity at Fukushima University has published “Introduction to Environmental Radioactivity,” an academic book summarizing research findings from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant accident.

The Institute of Environmental Radioactivity (IER) has published an academic book titled “Introduction to Environmental Radioactivity,” edited by Professor Toshihiro Wada, Associate Professor Hyoe Takata, and Professor Kenji Nanba (Director) (Production: Rekishi Shunju-sha). This publication was motivated by the desire to provide a textbook or introductory book for younger generation and the general public who are interested in environmental radioactivity.

Comprising 11 chapters, 5 columns, and spanning 255 pages, this book was primarily authored by IER faculty members in charge of the foundational course “Introduction to Environmental Radioactivity” at Fukushima University. Experts from diverse disciplines provide easy-to-understand explanations ranging from the basics of radioactive materials to atmospheric dispersion, airborne monitoring, migration to soil, effects on wildlife, and fisheries recovery.
