June 13, 2023, delegation from National Centre for Nuclear Research (NCBJ) in Poland visited IER.
On Tuesday, June 13, 2023, a delegation of nine researchers from the National Centre for Nuclear Research (NCBJ) in Poland, led by Professor Mariusz Dąbrowski, Head of the Division Nuclear Energy and Environmental Analyses, and Deputy Director OHASHI Hirofumi of the HTGR Project Management Office, the Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA), visited the IER.
The purpose of their visit to Fukushima was to gather information for developing plans related to emergency preparedness in the event of nuclear accidents, considering that Poland is currently undertaking a plan to construct its first-ever nuclear power plant along the coast.
Accompanied by Director Nanba and other IER researchers, the delegation embarked on an observation tour at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant in the morning. Afterward, they had lunch at Futabaya Ryokan in Odaka, Minamisoma city, where they had the opportunity to view an exhibition showcasing local efforts following the earthquake and nuclear accident. The group also visited the tsunami-devastated Hamadori areas, including the Remains of the earthquake Namie Town Ukedo Elementary School. After moving to Fukushima city, a seminar was held at the IER, where two NCBJ researchers, Dr. Ohashi, and six IER researchers presented their ongoing initiatives and research activities. Subsequently, a reception was organized at the restaurant “Ukura” in Fukushima city, facilitating information exchange and encouraging interaction among researchers, all with the aim of contributing to future research activities.
