Research Overview
Allochthonous organic matter is important for headwater stream ecosystems as nutrient source. In autumn, leaf input to the stream is essential for food web in this ecosystem. I have been studying functions of the riparian forest for the leaf supply, and the relationships between riparian vegetation and headwater stream ecosystem, especially, aquatic insect community. After the Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Plant accident, I have started research of radiocesium contaminations in forests and headwater stream ecosystems in and around Fukushima.
A few words
Radionuclide contamination due to Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Plant accident is still important issue for freshwater and forest ecosystems, as well as other environments. Also, Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant accident has been important one thought it happened about 25 years ago. To clarify and predict the radionuclide dynamics in Chernobyl will contribute to management of radiocesium contamination in and around Fukushima. I coporate closely with other researchers to resolve the issue.
